Legislative Activity

March 12, 2019

Recently, HB2697 was presented to the West Virginia State Legislature in the House, with an almost identical bill in the Senate. This bill aimed to deregulate a wide list of occupations, including Pest Control.  HB2697 stated essentially that, so long as the PCO put that they’re “not licensed” on their website, they would not be responsible for any potential harmful liability towards the consumer or anyone else.

Not only would this lower the overall standard of pest control and diminish the industry on the whole, but also the EPA would become the chief regulator, which would require all PCOs to travel to the EPA regional office in Philadelphia in order to receive a standard, proper license.

While you are hard at work at your pest control business, your WVPMA-NPMA joint member benefits are hard at work for YOU.  The policy team at NPMA vigilantly monitored and managed a potentially seriously damaging piece of legislation, by working through key contacts in both the government and the industry at large, and with constituents of the pest control industry in West Virginia.  We are proud to report that the bill has been successfully quashed, and the integrity of the industry remains intact!

If you’d like to know more or get more involved, please email NPMA Director of Public Policy, Jake Plevelich.  Thanks as always for your support.
